En Route . . .

Graduation and then what?

May 22, 2008 · 1 Comment

I’m a college graduate. Well, I will be as soon as I pay my $48.16 library overcharge fee. I am also hoping that campus safety is not aware that the gold ford ranger was mine or else I may also owe my net worth in parking tickets (Hey man, we had a verbal agreement and officer 115 was, apparently, not made aware of the arrangement).

My last hoorah as a university student involved my brother, cousin, roommate, dutch bros and a certain taxidermy convention at an unnamed Redding hotel establishment (check facebook for pictures in the up-coming week).

I graduated on Saturday, and that night I had my first alcoholic drink with the senior class president, the ASB president, and a former RA/future missionary (plus the younger siblings of previously mentioned presidents). Suffice it to say, it was a well tamed event.

With eyes still swollen I drove my sorry ass home to write my last college paper. That’s right, I went through the ceremony on Saturday and then wrote a paper for the next four days (p.s. my GPA before my final semester was a 3.475 so I did not get any chords, but assumed that my final grades would bump me up to a 3.5 – at least that’s what I told everyone . . . final GPA: 3.491!!!!!!!!!!!!! )(&@$*@&$%@(#*%&@.

Four days after graduating it was back to Redding for a top secret backpacking/leadership training trip in which I got snapped with a bandana for sarcasm, met some interesting heifers, and feel like a BAD-A-MOFO for not only surviving, but thriving! I didn’t shower for a week or do most other things that society accepts as steps in keeping proper hygiene. at one point I thought I was going to have a Balaam experience and hear the word of the Lord from a cud chewing cow.  Wish I could tell you more, but I can’t. Except, I can tell you that I was the minority on my team and want to be adopted by the Hmong people. And Blong, if you ever decide that you’ll let whitey’s into the race for wife, let me know and I’m there! ;-)

Training week with my bike team. Again, I’m in the minority and loving it. We have a team mascot: He’s a garden gnome named Nimrod – I’m so proud of my boys. I’ve watched them turn from being a bike team to becoming a blood:water team. I have a decision coming up that may effect our team dynamic, and I can only pray that if we go through with it, it’ll be for the best.

I’ve been home for a few days now, and have quickly become one of the busiest unmotivated people around. I have to get up in 5 hours to go on a possible 40 mile ride in Sac. How much more irresponsible can I get? If people aren’t depending on me, or working me so hard that bed time is 9pm without question, I suck at life.

I’m not much better, or much worse – I’m just graduated.

More thoughts later.

Word. Clearly my responsibilities differ greatly from yours but nonetheless, word.
