Yesterday I used an old gift card and finally got my hands on a Bob Dylan album, took a chance with Frou Frou, and a $10 copy of Bertrand Russel’s “A History of Western Philosophy.”
It’s been Frou Frou nearly non-stop until I put blue (the ipod) on shuffle for fear of draining the battery the last 10 miles of today’s ride.
“Cause every colour goes where you do” – It’s Good to be in Love by Frou Frou
I may have lost the larger part of my competitive edge back in high school, but there are worse things. Training is hard at times (a somewhat related result of the lack of fierce motivation) but when I remember to pick my head up I am constantly stalled by the beauty around me. My MPH drops, but my senses are calmed.
Blue rice fields and their quaking inhabitants are surrounded by gold and maroon reeds. Their colors are so vibrant through the amber lenses, that I stole from my little brother, I worry that if I touch them my hand will be covered in fresh paint. The orchards are so dense and ominous I’m afraid of falling into a fairy-tale.
This trip is terrifying me and compelling forward at the same time. It’s who I want to be, but I know that failure will always be a possibility so long as I am human. Yet, it is in being human that allows me to take in simple sights of colour and know that we are fearfully and wonderfully made. Yesterday, I was having a terrible ride and ended up finishing early. I wonder if the (somewhat) uncertainty of our status on the path of God’s will is a necessary incentive. If I didn’t feel so unsure would I feel the need to try anything? I’m content, but never positive . . . so I’ll keep working. Keep breathing in the colour.
*Spelling according to British standards on account of the lyric quoted is the product of British singer, song-writer Imogen Heap . . . and it looks a little less like a kindergarten word with the extra “u”

I like Frou Frou too! Imogen Heap is a good singer. Anyways, I thought I would write to say “Hi!” and see how things are going. In less than three months now I will be leaving for China and beginning a journey myself. I am very excited for the change of scenery and challenges.
P.S. Your writing is amazing! Keep it up!

Aaron! Hello friend, I am so excited for you and China. Keep me posted. I have to relocate the letter you sent me (it’s been lost in the lack of unpacking mess). I hope all is well! P.S. I might randomly call you up one weekend to inform you that I’m in China.
